2024: A Milestone Year for PS Renewables
By the PS Renewables team
As we wrap up another year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the remarkable strides we’ve made at PS Renewables across 2024. This year has been transformative for us as we continue to adapt and grow to be at the forefront of meeting the UK’s urgent need for low-carbon electricity. Members of our team have shared their personal highlights from 2024 and what they are looking forward to in 2025:
Jeremy Hinton (Commercial Director):
NSIPs
On the NSIP development side, PS Renewables has become the only company in the UK to secure 2 NSIP solar and battery storage projects, with Longfield (EDF Renewables/PS Renewables) and now Sunnica (Tribus/ PS Renewables) with secured DCO planning permissions. We have successfully completed the non-statutory and statutory consultation phases for Rosefield (EDF Renewables/PS Renewables) and One Earth Solar (Orsted/ PSR) ready to submit full applications to PINs in 2025. We are now ready to announce 4 further NSIPs to PINS in Q1/Q2 2025 which we have secured the land for and have surveys well underway. This will have been the biggest year to date for the PS Renewables NSIP team and we look forward to building on this success in 2025.
Sub 50MW
We have expanded our team this year in the nick of time! With 5 planning permissions received this year, a further 3 submitted and 2 more decisions awaited in Dec/Jan, this has been a year of growth. We aim to feed our EPC construction team with c.100-150MW of solar projects annually so we will keep this momentum going into 2025. With unprecedented turmoil in the grid reforms and the planning NPPFs as well as a change of government and the subsequent budget, it’s fair to say this has been a tough course to navigate, but we thankfully have found more opportunities than hurdles.
“RTB” Acquisition
PS Renewables is always looking for good RTB or early-stage development opportunities and have completed the purchase of over 120MW (DC) of projects in 2024 alone, with a further two projects agreed subject to the SPAs which are targeted to close in December/ January. If you have a project that you are looking to bring to market, please get in touch.
Final thoughts
It cannot be overstated, just how vital it is that the UK continues to lead the way in the transition to renewables, setting the standard for the world to follow. Clean Power 2030 is not just something that the new Government is aiming for, but we all need to continue to enlighten even the fiercest critics and sceptics of renewable energy. This is fundamentally needed now, and our children and grandchildren will judge what we achieve over the next decade. Happy Christmas to all.
Aaron Tucker (Operations Director):
What a year it has been. We have gone from strength to strength internally, developing our team and employing some of the best in the industry to develop and safely build out our solar farms across the UK. And also obtaining our first ISO accreditation.
Our in-house design team has increased significantly, supporting our development team, and maximising designs for efficiency. Looking at new technologies and constantly looking for improvements to design optimum projects for delivery.
Our Site Management Team have operated safe sites throughout the year, as always. We have grown this team over the year so we can build multiple sites in parallel with the support of our new Project Manager. The team have developed new software which will be used next year to aid the smooth operation of busy construction sites keeping health and safety at the forefront of daily activities.
We have successfully connected three projects this year to the electricity network working with three separate Network Operators. Not without its challenges along the way. Our team worked hard and with determination energised two sites in the same week due to resource availability. Not how we planned but with the tenacity of the team and our trusted partnerships with contractors, we made it happen.
The year has been very rewarding, and we are all looking forward to next year’s projects.
Happy Christmas To All.
Felipe Villaquiran (Technical Design Engineer):
Joining PS Renewables in 2024 has been an exciting and rewarding experience. From day one, I’ve felt welcomed as part of a dynamic team that is passionate about driving the transition to renewable energy. As a Technical Design Engineer, I’ve been involved in developing solar projects that contribute to the UK’s clean energy goals, and it’s been incredibly fulfilling to see how my work plays a role in this growing industry. Being part of a company that is expanding and innovating in such an impactful sector has been a highlight of my year, and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow with PS Renewables in 2025.
Carolyn Hanks (Office Manager):
This has been an exciting year for PS Renewables on many levels! We have expanded our team by 30% this year to support our growing business which has many development opportunities progressing and feeding into our EPC Construction team, along with completing and energising several sites this year. I have particularly enjoyed working within our NSIP Development team, developing excellent relationships with our landowners to ensure everything runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis. I am so proud to work for PS Renewables, delivering our mission of Pure, Breathable, Clear Air and I am looking forward to an exciting 2025!
From the whole PS Renewables team, we’d like to thank everyone who has worked with us to make this year a success – from our suppliers, our landowners, the communities where we operate and the wider solar industry, and we look forward to working together with you in 2025 to drive positive change.
