Solar Energy UK: how British farmers are boosting nature with renewable energy

As a member of Solar Energy UK, we’re proud to support its work sharing best practice and success stories from across the UK. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing videos from its latest series looking at how solar can support farming businesses and biodiversity, while powering homes and businesses across the UK.

The second video looks at the way solar is boosting biodiversity across the UK.  Having developed, built and designed over 40 solar farms in the UK so far, we understand the potential of solar farms to create and sustain thriving ecosystems.

Across the UK, farmers are discovering that solar farms can deliver more than power; they can boost biodiversity and support nature in remarkable ways, which in turn supports the rest of their farming activities. As one farmer explained: “Solar was a fantastic option for us. The biodiversity within the solar park should be a massive benefit – there’s no pesticides, the land underneath will be rested, and plants will grow that attract birds and bees to pollinate our fruit trees.”

By integrating solar with farming, land is given time to recover while wildlife flourishes. This approach not only strengthens crop yields but also helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

As the farmer put it: “For a farmer like me, I think it’s an absolutely perfect solution to all sorts of problems.”

At PS Renewables, we’re proud to support this transition, ensuring clean energy powers homes and businesses while strengthening UK agriculture and biodiversity.
